European stock markets sink after Trump threatens 50% EU tariff

European stock markets tumbled Friday after US President Donald Trump raised the spectre of imposing a 50-percent tariff on imports from the European Union from June 1.

The Paris CAC 40 index of blue-chip stocks was down 2.8 percent at around 1208 GMT while the Frankfurt DAX fell 2.5 percent after Trump said US-EU negotiations were “going nowhere”
